Mobility, the ability to conduct physical movement, is critical for an individual's health and quality of life. When mobility is impaired, people are more likely to be physically inactive, mentally distressed, and dependent upon caregivers' assistance for the most basic daily-living functions. At the Human-centered Bio-Robotics (HuB-Robotics) laboratory, our dream and ambition is to create innovative robots to provide direct support to mobility-challenged individuals. We envision a future in which intelligent robots become humans' companions and helpers, and towards this future we are working on robots that interact with humans in a variety of ways: wearable, standalone, and dockable. When developing these assistive and rehabilitation robots, we are also conducting fundamental research on novel robotic actuation, human-centered robot design, and biologically inspired robot control and human intent recognition.
